The five-door of the fourth generation with the in-plant marking "W177" first appeared before the public at the very beginning of February 2018 - as part of a special event in Amsterdam, and its "full-scale debut" took place next month - at the International Geneva Motor Show.

Compared to its predecessor, the car has changed in all directions - it “dressed up” in a new corporate style of the brand, tried on a salon in the spirit of “senior Mercedes”, received a thoroughly modernized platform, “armed” with new engines and literally “oversaturated” with modern technologies.

The exterior of the "fourth" Mercedes-Benz A-class is made in the style called "Hot and cool" - the hatchback looks fresh, beautiful, daring and "thoroughbred".

The assertive front of the five-door flaunts slanted headlights with LED running light corners, a graceful grille and sculpted bumper, while its lean rear “flaunts” sophisticated lanterns with additional sections on the trunk lid and a bumper with two trapezoidal tailpipes.

In profile, the car demonstrates a balanced, squat and dynamic silhouette with a sloping bonnet, almost “smooth” sidewalls, a sloping roofline and large wheel arches that house “rollers” ranging from 16 to 19 inches.

In terms of its dimensions, the Mercedes-Benz A-class W177 "protrudes", as already noted, in the compact category: it is 4419 mm long, 1796 mm wide, and does not exceed 1440 mm in height. The wheelbase fits into the hatchback at 2,729 mm, and its ground clearance is 104 mm.

In the "combat" state, the five-door weighs from 1355 to 1455 kg (depending on the modification).

The interior of the fourth generation Mercedes-Benz A-class is made in the same vein as the "older" models of the brand - inside the car looks attractive, noble and progressive.

The main emphasis in the interior of the premium hatch is placed on a single widescreen panel, consisting of two color displays: the left one is responsible for the dashboard, and the right one is responsible for infotainment functions (in the "base" their diagonal is 7 inches, and in the "top" versions - 10.25 inches).

The "rounded" dashboard in the central part flaunts three ventilation deflectors, reminiscent of aircraft turbines, and a stylish "microclimate" unit. In addition to this, the car boasts high-end materials and excellent build quality.

In the front part of the "apartment" five-door are equipped with ergonomic chairs with pronounced sidewalls, a large number of adjustments and heating, and as an option - even with an electric drive and ventilation. In addition, for a surcharge, the car can be equipped with sports bucket seats with integrated head restraints.

On the second row there is a comfortable sofa (which, however, is optimal only for two passengers) and a sufficient supply of free space.

By the standards of its segment, the Mercedes-Benz A-class of the fourth incarnation has a good trunk - its volume in normal condition is 370 liters. "Galyorka" is folded in several sections into a completely flat area, increasing the cargo capacity of the machine. In a niche under the raised floor at the hatch there are "dock" and tools.

For the car, three versions are offered (but in the Russian market there is only one, with a "junior" gasoline engine):

  • Diesel modification A 180d Powered by an OM608 in-line four-cylinder unit with a working volume of 1.5 liters, equipped with a variable displacement turbine, common rail injection and an 8-valve timing belt, which produces 116 horsepower at 4000 rpm and 260 Nm of torque at 1750-2500 rpm ...
  • Basic petrol version A 200 contains under the hood a 1.3-liter “four” M282 with a turbocharger, direct injection technology, 16 valves, variable valve timing and a two-cylinder shutdown function at low loads, generating 163 hp. at 5500 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 1620-4000 rpm.
  • "Top" version A 250 has a 2.0-liter M260 four-cylinder gasoline engine, turbocharged, direct-fed, 16-valve timing and variable valve timing, producing 224 hp. at 5500 rpm and 350 Nm of available potential at 1800-4000 rpm.

All motors are mated to a 7-band "robot" with two clutches and a front-wheel drive transmission, and 163-horsepower - by default works in conjunction with a 6-speed "mechanics".

As an option, the car is equipped with all-wheel drive with an electric multi-plate clutch that transfers up to half of the power reserve to the rear wheels.

From a standstill to 100 km / h, this five-door rushes after 6.2-10.5 seconds, and maximum gains 202-250 km / h.

Petrol modifications of the premium hatchback “digest” 5.1-6 liters of fuel for each mixed “hundred” of run, and the diesel version - about 4.1 liters.

At the heart of the fourth generation Mercedes-Benz A-class is the MFA modular "bogie" with a transverse assembly and a body structure, which is characterized by the wide use of high-strength steel grades.

On the front axle, the car has an independent MacPherson-type suspension, but the structure of the rear part depends on the modification: low-power ones have a semi-independent architecture with a torsion beam, and versions with a return of more than 200 hp. - independent multi-link. On request, the hatchback can be equipped with a sports chassis with a 15 mm lower ground clearance or adaptive shock absorbers.

Nominally, the "German" is equipped with rack and pinion steering with an active electric booster, as well as disc brakes on all wheels (front - ventilated) with ABS, EBD and other modern assistants.

In the Russian market, the Mercedes-Benz A-class W177, as already noted, is offered only with a 1.3-liter petrol engine (derated to "optimally tax" 150 hp) and a "robot" in four trim levels - "Comfort", " Style ”,“ Progressive ”and“ Sport ”.

A car in the basic version costs from 1,720,000 rubles, and the list of its equipment includes: seven airbags, halogen headlights, stamped 16-inch wheels, single-zone climate control, ABS, ESP, a virtual instrument cluster with a 7-inch screen, sensors light and rain, a media center with a 7-inch display, fabric seat upholstery, navigation, power windows for all doors, heated front seats and other equipment.

A hatchback in the "Style" version is sold at a price of 1,890,000 rubles, the "Progressive" modification will cost from 2,100,000 rubles, and the "sports" version is not cheaper than 2,210,000 rubles.

"Top" car boasts: sporty decor in the exterior and interior, 18-inch light-alloy "rollers", seats with integrated head restraints, leather interior and some other "chips".
