Reviews, comparisons & tips for motorists

The army of Russian fans of off-road vehicles is growing steadily. But since the majority of the population cannot afford the cost of classic jeeps, it remains to count on a more affordable option, since the choice of crossovers today is simply huge. We present to your attention two models that are in the same price category (conditionally, since the basic modifications really have approximately the same price tags, but the cost of top-end configurations differs quite significantly).

Technical features of the models

Comparison of technical characteristics is made for models of 2019. In the case of the Hyundai Tucson, this is the third generation with a 150-horsepower two-liter engine, automatic transmission and all-wheel drive transmission. Skoda Kodiaq has not yet managed to change a generation, but the engine is the same here, only diesel, there is both four-wheel drive and an automatic transmission.

Exterior

The Czechs, giving the name to their largest crossover, proceeded from the fact that the bear (this is how Kodiaq is translated from the language of the Alaskan indigenous inhabitants) is also the largest animal in our latitudes. However, this is where the bear resemblance ends. The Kodiaq is a really big car, especially the seven-seat version, which is the perfect family SUV. But the usual version also looks solid, the crossover as a whole looks modern and stylish.

Hyundai Tucson

But the “Korean” does not lag behind in this regard, especially after the last restyling. So the choice remains with the potential buyer. Which is better, Hyundai Tucson or Skoda Kodiaq, you will have to decide on your own, guided by your own ideas about a beautiful crossover.

Salon and trunk

The interior of the "German Czech" also does not cause rejection, but in comparison with the exterior, it appears more conservative - the influence of the parent company affects. You can rest assured that the ergonomics of the Kodiaq's interior are at the highest German standards, as well as the quality of finishing materials (and some of their varieties deserve comparison with premium products).

In general, inside the Kodiaq, you can find many similarities with the Tiguan, including a huge 635-liter trunk - according to this indicator, the model is among the clear leaders in its class.

Hyundai Tucson salon

The interior of Hyundai Tucson looks fresher and more interesting in comparison with the opponent, so we can say with a certain degree of confidence that young people will like it more. But such an assessment is far from always confirmed in practice, so here, too, we do not undertake to give preference to a specific model.

Engines and transmissions

The base engine for the Skoda Kodiaq is a 125-horsepower 1.4-liter turbocharged unit, which is combined with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. The same engine, but boosted to 150 hp. with., can be completed with all-wheel drive, and the preselective "robot" DSG. Finally, the top engine is considered to be a 180-horsepower two-liter turbocharged unit, which is installed only on front-wheel drive modifications with a seven-band robotic box.

There is also a 2-liter 150-horsepower turbodiesel in the Czech SUV engine line. Its 190-strong analogue is not supplied to Russia.

Three engine options are hiding under the hood of the Korean: a 1.6-liter 177 turbocharged gasoline engine is the base one, it is complemented by a two-liter 185-horsepower turbodiesel and a 150-horsepower naturally aspirated engine of the same volume. As for the transmissions, there are also three of them: a time-tested six-band manual transmission and two automatic machines, a six-and eight-band.

Comparison of Skoda Kodiaq and Hyundai Tucson in terms of power unit equipment demonstrates a slight advantage of the latter.

Dynamics, fuel consumption

A 1.4-liter Kodiaq engine in a 150-horsepower version overcomes the autosprint in 9.9-10.1 seconds, demonstrating a top speed of 194 km / h and consuming no more than 7.1 liters of gasoline in integrated mode. The two-liter turbocharged gasoline engine accelerates to 100 km / h in 8.0 seconds at a maximum speed of 205 km / h, eating 7.3 liters in mixed driving mode.

Skoda Kodiaq

The 150-horsepower turbodiesel accelerates to 194 km / h, spends 10.2 seconds on standard acceleration up to “hundreds” and gets rid of it after every 100 km. paths from 7.4 liters of diesel fuel.

The Hyundai Tucson has roughly parity performance compared to the Skoda Kodiaq: a two-liter 150-horsepower unit overcomes an automobile “sprint” in 11.3 seconds, accelerates to 184 km / h and spends 8.2 liters of gasoline in a combined mode. The 1.6-liter engine has the following dynamics / consumption indicators: 9.1 / 201 / 7.5. The efficiency of the 185-horsepower turbodiesel is impressive - 9.5 / 201 / 6.4.

Controllability and cross-country ability

All Skoda models are characterized by excellent handling and the Kodiaq is no exception. This large SUV behaves like a sedan on the road. The steering wheel is sharp, but in moderation so as not to tire the car owner on daily trips. The suspension, by the way, is adapted for Russian roads. This means that it is harsh, so that you can not count on increased comfort. In terms of off-road performance, they are not outstanding. The nearly 19-centimeter ground clearance is not conducive to overcoming serious off-road, but the Tucson is even worse.

Skoda Kodiaq salon

With the handling of the "Korean", too, everything is in order, and he swallows road defects much more confidently than an opponent.

Security systems and assistants

In the basic configuration, which differs in cost by only 40 thousand rubles, the more expensive "Czech" is equipped with four airbags and a system of directional stability. Not much. At Tucson, you can add curtain airbags, as well as ABS / EBD / VSM systems. In the top-end version, this list can be supplemented with a blind spot monitoring function, a lane tracking assistant, collision warning systems when reversing and automatic braking when an obstacle is detected in front. The "Czech" adds curtain airbags, PB to protect the knees of the driver, a driver monitoring sensor, an assistant for starting up the hill, a blind spot monitoring system and a proprietary CPA passenger protection system.

Which is better, Tucson or Kodiaq, you can see right away, especially in the initial trim levels - here Skoda is not a competitor to the Korean.

Options and prices

The new Tucson in the basic version Primary costs 1.5 million rubles, and its opponent (Active RF 2019 equipment) costs 1.457 million. In terms of equipment, the Korean is stronger in the "safety" category, but inferior in terms of comfort - the cheapest Skoda Kodiaq has dual-zone climate control against the Tucson's car air conditioner. But the Czech crossover has one indisputable advantage - just a huge list of additional options, from lighting the space in the cabin to the panoramic roof. In addition, we note that the top-end Kodiaq equipment costs 3 million rubles, the Korean SUV - 2.27 million. The difference is palpable, but so is the level of equipment.

Which to choose: Kodiaq or Tucson

We admit right away that you have a difficult choice - in some positions the cars are close, in some the Czech crossover is clearly ahead, in some positions the “Korean” is out of competition. The usual subdivision into cars, better adapted for the city or off-road, does not work here - according to this indicator, both SUVs are on the same level. So you have to make a comprehensive assessment depending on which factors are of the highest priority for you.
