At the international Shanghai exhibition of the auto industry in April 2011, a presentation of the conceptual crossover Subaru XV took place, the serial embodiment of which made its debut in September at the automobile show in Frankfurt, and practically unchanged. From that moment on, the car not only lost the word "Impreza" in the name, but also grew into a completely independent model.

In December 2013, the SUV was overtaken by the first modernization, which did not make visible improvements to the exterior and interior, but did not do without technical "metamorphoses" - the engine design was changed, the shock absorber and steering settings were revised and improvements were made to the power frame.

Another update happened to the Subaru XV in July 2015, but it again affected mainly the structural part - the suspension became more comfortable, the control was sharper, and the sound insulation was better.

The last, to date, "portion" of improvements to the crossover was poured in October 2015 - it has a new bumper with "fangs", wheels with a different design, an expanded list of electronic "assistants" and adjusted steering and chassis settings.

Outside, the Subaru XV looks really menacing and dynamic, and its catchy appearance attracts the attention of not only drivers, but also pedestrians. A muscular and tightly knit silhouette, plastic edging along the lower perimeter of the body, massive sagging around the wheel arches, a frown "look" of the head optics and an imitation of a diffuser in the rear bumper - this is a real crossover, and not just a "raised" hatchback, as it was with its predecessor. The heavily inclined A-pillar and sloping roof contours add lightness to the image, and beautiful two-tone 17-inch wheels add "maturity" to the image.

The five-door "X-vi" in terms of its overall dimensions belongs to the community of compact crossovers: its length is 4450 mm, height - 1615 mm, width - 1780 mm. The wheels of the front and rear axles are separated from each other by a 2635 mm gap, and a solid 220 mm clearance can be seen "under the belly" of the car.

The interior of the Subaru XV is laconic and thought out to the smallest detail, but in terms of design it is rather gloomy and dreary. The weighty steering wheel of the crossover is nice and functional, the instrument panel with the color board of the on-board computer is simple in appearance, but clear and informative in practice, and the center console, despite a somewhat boring design, is modern and ergonomic. At the very top of the dashboard, in the "prompter's booth", a pair of different types of displays are hidden, providing the driver with a large array of information, and below are a 7-inch screen of the multimedia complex and three large "washers" of the air conditioner. The "Japanese" has a complete order with the finishing materials - high-quality and soft plastics, appropriate silver inserts "like metal", good-quality fabric and genuine leather.

The front riders in the Subaru XV find themselves in the arms of tenacious seats with strongly pronounced lateral support (although visually they are perceived as shapeless) and electric adjustments in various directions. There is grace on the back sofa for two passengers (although the number of amenities is minimal - only the armrest), but the third one finds itself in an awkward position due to the high molding of the central part of the pillow and the noticeably protruding floor tunnel.

The luggage compartment of the crossover is typical for representatives of the "golf" class - only 310 liters in the standard position. At the same time, a cross between a full-fledged "spare" and a "dokatka" is laid underground - a wheel with a standard size of 185/65 R17, which is smaller and narrower than the main "rollers" with a dimension of 225/55 R17. The backs of the second row are folded in two unequal parts into an almost flat surface, as a result of which the volume of the "hold" increases to 1200 liters.

Specifications. On the Russian market, Subaru XV is equipped with an uncontested engine - an atmospheric "four" with horizontally opposed cylinder layout, distributed injection, fuel injectors located in the block heads, and a rocker valve drive that meets Euro-5 environmental requirements.
With a displacement of 2.0 liters (1995 cubic centimeters), the motor generates a maximum of 150 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 198 Nm of torque at 4200 rpm. In addition to this, the crossover is equipped with a Lineatronic wedge-chain variator and a permanent four-wheel drive system with a multi-plate clutch, which divides the moment in a ratio of 60:40 in favor of the front end, and a rear limited-slip differential.

In other countries, the car is also available with other gasoline and diesel units, manual transmission and symmetrical all-wheel drive.

"Asphalt disciplines" are not the strong point of the Japanese SUV - it takes 10.7 seconds to accelerate to 100 km / h, and the maximum speed is 187 km / h.

In mixed driving conditions "according to the passport" the car "eats" 7.9 liters of fuel for every "hundred" of the way.

Yes, and off-road "X-Vee" is not suitable in the best way, even in spite of a decent clearance: the angles of entry and exit reach 18.9 and 27.3 degrees, respectively.

The Subaru XV is based on a modified third-generation Impreza bogie with a longitudinally mounted power unit. The suspension on the crossover is independent "in a circle": the classic MacPherson struts are involved in the front, and the multi-link architecture with A-shaped levers is used at the rear. Braking devices on all wheels are disc: the diameter of the front ventilated devices is 294 mm, and the diameter of the rear ones is 274 mm. By default, the vehicle is equipped with electric power assisted rack and pinion steering.

Options and prices. At the beginning of 2016 in Russia, you can buy Subaru XV only in one configuration "Active Edition" at a price of 1,699,900 rubles.
The standard equipment of the SUV includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, VDC, dual-zone climate control, multifunction steering wheel, multimedia with a 7-inch screen, a rear-view camera, "music" with six speakers, xenon headlights, 17-inch aluminum wheels, heating front seats and other modern functionality.
