The seventh "release" of the three-volume box with in-plant marking "XV70" made its official debut at the end of April 2018 - on the stage of the International Beijing Motor Show, replacing two models at once - its immediate predecessor and the rear-wheel-drive GS sedan.

After another “change of generations”, the car radically changed visually, grew in size, “moved” but a new platform, “prescribed” other power units under the hood, received a “sporty” version of F Sport and, most importantly, changed its character (which became more driver ).

In April 2021, as part of a motor show in Shanghai, a restyled sedan was presented to the public - the exterior was slightly corrected, a new multimedia complex with a touch screen instead of the previous passive display was separated, the chassis was reconfigured in order to "further strengthen the connection between the car and the driver", the brake system and added new modern options. But the "new things" did not end there either, because the four-door was also "armed" with a new base engine working in tandem with a variator.

Outside, the "seventh" Lexus ES resembles the flagship LS sedan - it looks just as attractive, elegant, impressive and noble, but in addition to this it is also very dynamic.

The full face of the four-door is awe-inspiring due to the daring lighting technology of complex shape, the monumental "hourglass" of the radiator grille with a picket fence of chrome-plated rods and the sculpted bumper. In profile, the business sedan attracts the eye with graceful, energetic and balanced outlines, usually inherent in rear-wheel drive models - a long bonnet, expressive sidewalls and a sloping roof that "flows" into the stretched "branch" of the trunk.

Well, the solid stern with wide-spreading lanterns connected by a chrome-plated bridge and a powerful bumper successfully completes the look of the car.

In addition to this, the three-volume is provided with the “F Sport” version, the distinctive features of which are a fine-mesh radiator grille, a more developed front bumper, a massive spoiler on the trunk lid, a pair of trapezoidal exhaust pipes and original 19-inch wheels.

In terms of dimensions, the seventh generation Lexus ES is a full-fledged "player" of the E-class by European brands: it is 4980 mm long, of which the center-to-center spacing extends by 2870 mm, does not exceed 1865 mm in width and 1445 mm in height.

Interior

Inside, the Japanese business sedan meets its inhabitants with beautiful, modern and "thoroughbred" equipment, and in addition to this it boasts impeccable ergonomics and exclusively premium finishing materials (pliable plastics, aluminum, high-quality leather, etc.).

A three-spoke multi-steering wheel with a "puffy" rim, a virtual instrument cluster "covered" with an original visor, a minimalist center console with a widescreen 12.3-inch display of the media center and a kind of air conditioning unit - the interior of the "Japanese" fully corresponds to its prestigious status.

One of the advantages of the seventh generation Lexus ES is the spaciousness of the cabin: there is plenty of free space here for riders in both rows.

In the front part of the "apartment" four-door are equipped with ergonomic chairs with a developed profile, a bunch of electrical adjustments and heating, and as an option - even with ventilation and a massager. At the back there is a comfortable sofa that can accommodate three adults.

In normal condition, the three-volume luggage compartment is able to accommodate 490 liters of luggage.

In an underground niche he has a small spare wheel and the necessary minimum of tools.

Specifications

For the "seventh" Lexus ES, four modifications are announced to choose from, and one of them is a hybrid (but only purely gasoline versions are presented on the Russian market):

  • Basic version ES200 Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder "aspirated" with multipoint injection, variable valve timing and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, producing 150 horsepower at 6600 rpm and 206 Nm of torque at 4400-4900 rpm.
  • The next option in the hierarchy ES250 equipped with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated "four" with multipoint "power", 16 valves and the Dual VVT-i system, which develops 200 hp. at 6600 rpm and 243 Nm of rotational potential at 5000 rpm.
  • Under the hood of the "top" ES350 contains a V-shaped six-cylinder unit of 3.5 liters with combined fuel injection, 32-valve timing and phase shifters on both shafts, generating 249 hp. at 5000-6600 rpm and 356 Nm of peak thrust at 4600-4700 rpm.
  • Hybrid modification ES300h boasts a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, an electric motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery. Its total output is 218 hp.

The smallest unit is mated with a Direct Shift variator, which has a V-belt mechanism and a "mechanical" first gear, a gasoline-electric power plant works jointly with an electromechanical variator, and the rest relies on an 8-speed hydromechanical automatic transmission (all of them direct traction only to the front wheels).

It is worth noting that before the update, the sedan was supplied with a different base engine (albeit of similar power), which was combined with a 6-band "automatic". In addition, in the United States, an all-wheel drive transmission with a multi-plate clutch for connecting the rear wheels is also offered for the car.

Dynamics, speed and consumption

Purely petrol versions of the four-door "break away" from a standstill to 100 km / h after 7.9-12.2 seconds, and the maximum gain is 210 km / h.

In combined driving conditions, they consume from 6.9 to 9.5 liters of fuel for every "hundred" of the run, depending on the power level.

Design features

At the heart of the "seventh" Lexus ES is the front-wheel drive global architecture "GA-K" (part of the TNGA family) with a transverse engine and a low center of gravity. The power structure of the body of the four-door for a large part consists of high-strength steel.

On both axles of the car, independent suspensions are used: in the front - of the MacPherson type, in the rear - a multi-link arrangement. The sedan is equipped with an electric power steering, mounted directly on the rail, and disc brakes on the front and rear wheels (ventilated in the first case) with ABS, EBD and other electronics.

In addition, for the three-volume is offered a sporty version "F Sport", the distinctive features of which are: a reinforced body, an adaptive chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers and, in general, more driver settings for the engine and gearbox.

Options and prices

Sales of the seventh generation restyled Lexus ES in the world's leading markets (including the Russian one) will begin in the fall of 2021, while in our country a “pre-reform” car is offered exclusively with gasoline engines in six trim levels to choose from - Comfort, Advance, F Sport. Executive, Premium and Luxury.

A basic sedan with a 150-horsepower engine costs a minimum of 3,140,000 rubles, and with a 200-horsepower engine, it costs 321,000 rubles more.By default, it is equipped with: ten airbags, dual-zone "climate", 17-inch alloy wheels, full LED optics, leather trim, electric drive and heated front seats, a media center with an 8-inch screen, front and rear parking sensors, a rear view camera, ABS, EBD, VSC, ten-speaker audio system, power steering column and more.

The three-volume in the F Sport version is offered at a price of 3,749,000 rubles, and the "top modification" will cost from 4,584,000 rubles (for the 200-horsepower version, the surcharge for the V6 engine is 553,500 rubles).

The most luxurious sedan boasts: front seat ventilation, electric and heated rear seats, three-zone "climate", panoramic roof, all-round cameras, 18-inch wheels, blind spot monitoring, electric boot lid, adaptive cruise, multimedia system with 12.3 -inch monitor, projection display, Mark Levinson audio system with 17 speakers, Lexus Safety System + and the darkness of other modern equipment.
